The Lumiere brothers :

Lumière brothers were french inventors and founder manufacturers of photographic equipment who developed the early motion-picture camera and projector called the Cinématographe (“cinema” is based on this name).

Auguste Lumière and Louis Lumière created the first motion picture, La Sortie des ouvriers de l'usine Lumière ("Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory").

Their Cinématographe introduced an important innovation: it created a new, shared cinema experience by projecting moving images onto a large screen thus the very first "movies" were created.
Along with their work, inventors like George Eastman (who introduced the first kodak camera) and Thomas Edison (motion picture camera) helped bring the formation of the film industry as movies started to be created.

EVOLUTION

The Silent Era 1800-1920's

The first movies in film history did not have synchronized sounds thus theatre organists or a large orchestra would often play music to accompany the films, but they were still very popular. Cinema was a new and low-cost form of entertainment unlike the theatre, which required live actors, it could play to a single audience at any time. So all the films during the silent era only include live sounds and black-and-white footage. famous actors from this era include charlie Chaplin.

The talkies 1927

By the beginning of the Second World War, movies had become a common leisure in small towns and villages across the globe thus the development of a practical application for adding sound to film was also being worked upon. And so the sound became constantly popular with movie theaters leaving silent films behind.

Due to this many silent film actors lost their jobs as they had to rely more on dialogues
rather than facial expressions and body language. though the old movies were still playing in some areas by 1932 the vast majority of moving picture consumers were entertained by the ‘talkies

The era of Color 1920s

After the silent films of the 1890s, filmmakers began experimenting with tinting and toning to make the visual experience closer to reality. innovations like the development of Kinemacolor and Technicolor helped produced the first color film.

In 1950, Eastman Kodak marketed Eastmancolor, his more affordable three-color system which helped create more colored films.

The golden age of cinema

With the releases of classics like Wuthering Heights, Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and many more in 1939 – filmmaking took a new turn with various advancements in film devices, plot, and technology. New directors were introduced and new actors were recognized.
The films started getting longer, plotlines were more complex, relatable human characters drove the narratives, artificial lighting and special effects were introduced, and an industry-standard was established.

Current age cinema :

3D technology for the cinema, and online streaming platforms for home entertainment is introduced. new documentary films, home theatre systems, special edition DVDs, and globalization of cinema – this was the first decade of the 21st century in a nutshell.

The continued evolution of film technology brought about a change in the concept of how movies are made as well as consumed. Cinema has revolutionized in terms of production, distribution, and the overall experience itself. Today, films are produced with high-tech digital cameras, computer-generated effects added in postproduction, and showcased not only in theaters but also on websites and online streaming platforms to a worldwide audience.
